Amazon Announces Hiring Plans for Highly Anticipated Cortana Fulfillment Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Amazon is currently hiring for the Cortana site in Baton Rouge.

In a recent announcement, Amazon has indicated that it may be opening its doors soon by posting job openings for its Cortana Fulfillment Center. Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome shared the news on social media, stating that the first jobs will be posted on Friday evening, with plans to hire over 1,000 full-time employees. Those interested in applying for a job can visit amazon.com/flexiblejobs and search by zip code.

Two years ago, Jessica Breaux, an economic development manager for Amazon, spoke to the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge about the company’s usual hiring practices. She mentioned that Amazon usually begins hiring six to eight weeks before a fulfillment center’s launch. During a media tour last year, Amazon officials had expected the $200 million center to open by mid-2024. However, due to supply chain issues, those plans were postponed and the operation was pushed back to 2023.

The demolition of Cortana Mall began in March 2021 to make way for the new facility. The vast 90-foot-tall building’s second through fifth floors will house storage, robots, and conveyors to retrieve items for packaging and distribution on the first floor. Unlike other Amazon fulfillment centers, no items stored at the Cortana center will be shipped directly to customers. Instead, the facility serves as the initial step in Amazon’s distribution system.
