Amazon Abandons Just Walk Out Technology: Privacy Concerns and Legal Challenges Lead to Removal of Self-Checkout System from Fresh Stores”.

Amazon abandons ‘Just Walk Out’ technology due to ongoing problems

Amazon has decided to remove its “Just Walk Out” technology from all Fresh grocery stores across the United States. This decision comes after a number of problems with the self-checkout system, including issues with cameras, sensors, and 1,000 human eyeballs. The system was intended to provide a more automated shopping experience for customers, allowing them to simply walk into the store, grab what they need, pay at a counter without a cashier and then leave. However, reports indicate that more than 1,000 real people in India were scanning camera feeds to ensure that all patrons were accurately checking out.

In addition to these operational issues, Amazon also faced legal challenges related to the technology. A class action suit in New York accused the company of collecting biometric identifier information without properly disclosing the practices to consumers, which was found to be a violation of the state’s Biometric Identifier Information Law.

Due to these issues and others that have yet to be revealed by Amazon, the company has decided to remove the Just Walk Out technology from its Fresh grocery stores across the US. These stores will now rely on traditional checkout methods using cashiers or other manual means of processing transactions. While this decision may disappoint some shoppers who were looking for a more convenient way of shopping for groceries, it is likely that it will be seen as an improvement in terms of privacy and security for consumers.
