Alliances Shape Up as France’s Legislative Elections Countdown Intensifies

Nominations in France closing soon, election campaign to begin tomorrow

The clock is ticking for nominations in France’s upcoming legislative elections, set to open on Sunday, June 30. Parties have until 6pm today to register their names, after which the official electoral campaign will kick off. In total, there are 577 constituencies involved in the race, and the photo finish is set to start this evening.

In recent news, former president Francois Hollande has joined forces with a left-wing alliance called New Popular Front. This new union brings together the ‘rebels’ of Insoumise with Gluckmann’s socialists and promises to challenge the status quo in French politics. However, they must prove that their diversity can be harnessed for a common goal.

On the left side of the political spectrum, a new and varied alliance has formed that has managed to agree on a program and candidates within a short timeframe. The majority camp is mobilizing under the leadership of Prime Minister Gabriel Attal and promises to focus on purchasing power if they win.

Meanwhile, on the far-right front, Eric Ciotti’s demonstrations will finally be judged as candidacies close down. However, uncertainty remains about Reconquête candidates after Eric Zemmour excluded Marion Marechal and her allies. Some local leaders of his movement have announced their support for RN candidates instead.

Overall, the stage is set for an intense and competitive legislative election in France as parties vie for power in what could be one of the most closely watched races yet.
