Alliance Between Right-Wing Leaders: Marion Marechal and Giorgia Meloni Discuss Shifting Europe to the Right in Historic Meeting at Palazzo Chigi.

Meloni meets Marion Marechal, the face of the extreme right in France

Yesterday, a meeting took place at Palazzo Chigi between Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Marion Marechal, the leader of the French far-right party ‘Reconquête’. The meeting was announced by Marion Marechal on her social media account, where she shared four photos and expressed her intention to form an alliance between the center and the left in the European Parliament to shift Europe to the right.

Despite polls suggesting that ‘Reconquête’ may not reach the 5% threshold required to enter the European Parliament, it remains a significant player in the French right-wing political landscape. According to Elabe institute, voting intentions are described as “very volatile,” with a third of voters still undecided and likely to change their minds before the elections.

In recent polls, Jordan Bardella of RN is projected to receive 32.5% of the votes, leading Valerie Hayer, an ally of centrist President Emmanuel Macron, who is expected to receive 16%. Following them is center-left socialist candidate Raphael Glucksman with 13%. In addition to ‘Reconquête’, right-wing opposition party Les Republicains is also predicted to fall below the 5% threshold.

Marion Marechal’s message about shifting Europe to the right on June 9 reflects her shared goals and aspirations with Giorgia Meloni in the European political landscape.
