Čubelić Arrested for Traffic Violation, Uskok Already Planning His Detention

Over a month ago, the investigation into the attempted murder of Joseph & Caronubelia Čube (37) in Skalice, Split was handed over to a new investigator. The shooting occurred on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at approximately 3:50 p.m., on the corner of Put Skalica Street and Table. The suspects in this case are Nenad Petrak (44), an alleged drug lord currently in a Split prison, along with his associates Jerko Radić (45), Ante Varnica (43), and Jerkov nećak Alen Radić (22).

On Domovinsko rata Street, two unknown individuals blocked the path of a vehicle with five people inside before aggressively confronting them. They cursed, insulted, and physically attacked the occupants of the vehicle. One man even opened the door and physically assaulted another person. The police initially suspected that Josip Čubelić was involved in the attacks, leading to his arrest. However, it was later revealed that he was actually defending his friend.

Čuba’s arrest was linked to suspicions of his involvement in the drug trade in Split after the arrest of Nenad Petrak. Along with Čubelić, his alleged associates Ivica O. and Vinko Ž. were also arrested while Ivica K remains at large. The motive for the shooting on April 11, 2023 is believed to be related to a previous altercation that young Alen Radić had with Čuba’s associates. Despite Čubelić’s testimony that he did not see who shot him, Jerka Radić and Varnica are being blamed for the shooting. The underlying motive is still believed to be of a business nature according to USKOK.
