Albion Signs Young Goalkeeper to Three-Year Contract Amid Championship Ambitions

Griffiths, Baggies’ goalkeeper, commits to club with new deal until 2027

West Bromwich Albion has signed goalkeeper Josh Griffiths to a new three-year contract. Griffiths, an England youth international who was part of last summer’s under-21 training camp, is now committed to the Championship club until the summer of 2027.

Born in Hereford, Griffiths is 22 years old and spent the 2023-24 season as Albion’s second choice behind Alex Palmer. In four out of his six home league appearances with Albion, Griffiths kept clean sheets, showcasing his skill and potential as a goalkeeper. His ultimate goal is to become the number one goalkeeper for the team and he is excited about the future with the club.

Griffiths praised Palmer for his outstanding performance last season, acknowledging him as one of the best goalkeepers in the league. Previously, Griffiths had loan spells at Cheltenham Town and Lincoln City before being recalled from Portsmouth in January 2023. During that time, he made 10 first team appearances and kept 10 clean sheets. However, in the 2023-24 season, he was limited to just three cup games as Albion made it to the Championship play-offs but were beaten in the semi-finals by Southampton who were eventually promoted to the Premier League.
