Alabama Men’s Basketball Strengthens Roster with Transfer of Highly Ranked Big Man Clifford Omoruyi

Rutgers standout Clifford Omoruyi moves to Alabama: Former top shot-blocker in the nation transferred her last season

Alabama’s men’s basketball team has received a commitment from highly ranked big man Clifford Omoruyi from Rutgers through the transfer portal, adding to their roster for the 2024-25 season. Omoruyi, who was ranked as the No. 13 player in CBS Sports’ Transfer Rankings, is known for his shot-blocking abilities and impressive stats from last season. He started 104 games in four seasons at Rutgers, averaging 10.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks in 26 minutes.

The addition of Omoruyi is part of a larger plan by Alabama to strengthen their team with transfers and recruits. Despite losing key players from their Final Four roster, the team is making moves to rebuild their depth chart for the upcoming season. Omoruyi joins Aden Holloway from Auburn, Chris Youngblood from USF, and Houston Mallette from Pepperdine as the fourth transfer Alabama has added this offseason. The team has the No. 2 recruiting class from the 2024 cycle, which includes top prospects like five-star center Derrion Reid and four-star players like Aiden Sherrell, Labaron Philon, and Naas Cunningham.

With Omoruyi on board, Alabama is looking forward to another successful season on the court. His shot-blocking ability will be a valuable asset to a defense that lost key pieces during the offseason. Additionally, his impressive stats will help fill out an offense that struggled at times last year without key contributors like Jaden Shackelford and Jahvon Bessant Jr., who both transferred elsewhere after leading Alabama to the Final Four in March Madness last season. Overall, Omoruyi’s commitment marks another important step in Alabama’s ongoing efforts to rebuild their roster for next year’s championship run on Capstone Hill.
