Alabama A&M Board of Trustees Approves Construction of New Science Building and Student Amenities

During its regular board meeting on Friday, the Board of Trustees at Alabama A&M University (AAMU) approved a $249,631,874 budget for the university. This budget includes the construction of a new science building and a student amenities building. The university stated that the new science building will triple the current academic STEM footprint on campus, while the student amenities building will host gathering spaces, centralized campus services, food options and student support facilities.

The board of trustees also approved a 2.5 percent cost of living increase for faculty and staff, as well as the relocation of WJAB, AAMU’s public radio station, to a property at 3812 John F. Kennedy Circle. In addition, they purchased 101 Whitney Avenue and established the Ronald & Patricia McCalep-McIntosh Sr. Endowed Chair in Biology.

AAMU President Daniel K. Wims stated that these approvals confirm the commitment of the Board of Trustees to the success of this institution and solidify its growth and posture in today’s higher education landscape. He expressed confidence that their recent accomplishments will continue to attract the best faculty and students as they embark on their 150th year of existence next year. The president also emphasized that these developments will enhance their role in secondary education and launch them to greater heights in the years to come.
