Al-Futtaim Group Shines a Light on Sustainability with New Guinness World Record Display of Solar-Powered Lights

Dubai’s Guinness World Record-Breaking Solar Lamp Display

Al-Futtaim Group recently made headlines for creating the largest display of solar-powered lights, breaking a new Guinness World Record. This achievement was accomplished using 3,000 solar lights and is part of the company’s commitment to sustainable practices and renewable energy. The display, which will be showcased at the North Helipad in Dubai Festival City Mall from May 24 to 26, features handmade solar lamps arranged in the shape of a ghaf tree, the national tree of the UAE.

This initiative is a partnership with COP28 as Al-Futtaim Group continues to promote electric transportation and renewable energy sources. By setting this record, the company hopes to raise awareness about sustainability and provide practical solutions for communities without access to electricity. The solar lamps used in the display will be distributed to 3,000 families in remote areas with the help of the Letter of Light Initiative, a UNESCO social enterprise.

The Tree of Lights initiative originated from Al-Futtaim Group to coincide with World Earth Month in April. Various entities within the group, including Al-Futtaim Automotive Group, Al-Futtaim Educational Foundation, Al-Futtaim Real Estate Company, Dubai Festival City Mall, and the Blue Rewards application, came together to support this cause. This collaboration aims to engage the community and younger generation in promoting sustainability and addressing environmental challenges.

Through partnerships with organizations like the Letter of Light Initiative, Al-Futtaim Group is working towards reducing energy poverty and encouraging communities to adopt clean energy practices. According to Ilac Diaz, Founder and Executive Director of the Letter of Light Initiative, cooperation with local communities and young people is essential in understanding and addressing climate challenges.
