Against the Odds: The Dominican Republic’s Journey to Political Stability and Economic Growth in the Caribbean

Will the Dominican Republic be able to sustain its economic growth?

For many years, the Caribbean region has been grappling with economic challenges and political instability. Cuba, for instance, is currently facing an economic crisis. Puerto Rico, on the other hand, has seen a decline in its economy. Haiti continues to struggle with political, security, and economic issues.

However, amidst these challenges, there is a success story in the Caribbean: the Dominican Republic. Over the past two decades, the country has achieved political stability and economic growth. President Luis Abinader now faces the challenge of implementing reforms to sustain this progress and avoid falling into the middle-income trap that has affected other Latin American nations. While recent successes are commendable, continued efforts will be necessary to ensure sustained growth and prosperity for the Dominican Republic.
