Injury forces three-time Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas to withdraw from U.S. gymnastics championships

Gabby Douglas, a three-time Olympic gold medalist, has had to withdraw from the U.S. gymnastics championships in Fort Worth, Texas due to an ankle injury. She was aiming to secure a spot on the team for the 2024 Paris Olympics. At 28 years old, Douglas would have been the oldest American woman to compete at the Olympics since 1952 had she made the team.

Despite her disappointment over the injury, Douglas expressed pride in the effort she made to attempt a return to the Olympics. In an interview with ESPN, she shared her love for the sport and her passion for pushing her limits. She hopes to inspire both her peers and the next generation of gymnasts by showing that age is just a number and hard work can help achieve anything.

Throughout her illustrious gymnastics career, Douglas has accumulated numerous gold medals. Her last Olympic appearance was in 2016, where she claimed yet another gold medal in the team event. Across multiple Olympics and world championships, Douglas has earned five gold medals and a silver medal in her more than decade-long competitive career.
