Aeronautical Unions Stage Protest Against Half-Sanction in Deputies of the Bases Law, Causing Flight Disruptions

How will Monday’s union protest affect the flight schedule?

Aeronautical unions in Argentina will stage “information assemblies” on Monday morning at both the metropolitan Aeroparque and Ezeiza airports, disrupting flights scheduled between 8 and 11 am. The protests are aimed at expressing their opposition to the half-sanction in Deputies of the Bases Law project, which includes reducing the non-taxable minimum, potentially leading to aeronautical employees having to pay Income Tax on their salaries.

The United Aeronautical Unions alliance, comprising APLA, APTA, UPSA, and APA, has organized the protests. The cabin crew of Aerolíneas Argentinas and low-cost carriers are also participating, while the low-cost company unions will not go on strike. This Monday’s protest is the first of two planned for the week, with a general strike scheduled for Thursday.

Sources from Aerolíneas have assured that there will be no cancellations due to these assemblies; however, delays are possible. Flybondi does not expect cancellations or delays due to their use of Intercargo ramp services. JetSmart may experience affected flights due to their use of Intercargo ramp services. Foreign airlines landing at Ezeiza are also monitoring the situation closely.

The protests will continue beyond this week as well. Protests have been planned in front of the National Congress on the day when the Senate discusses the Bases Law. The details of these protests will be communicated by the unions’ organic bodies.

In conclusion, aeronautical unions in Argentina plan to stage information assemblies on Monday morning at both metropolitan airports in protest against government policies that affect them negatively. They want to express their opposition by disrupting flights scheduled between 8 and 11 am but assure that they will not cause any cancellations or delays for passengers who can fly later in the day or during other days of the week when another set of demonstrations is planned at different locations such as National Congress where they want to raise awareness about how these policies can harm them financially and professionally.
