The city of Bucyrus has received some good news as Advanced Fiber Technology (AFT) announced the opening of its second production line at its facility in Crossroads Industrial Park. The $5.5 million investment includes $4.75 million in cutting-edge technology, robotics, and automation in the wastepaper conversion industry. This expansion has created six full-time positions and maintained the company’s 33 employees.
AFT, founded by Bucyrus-native Doug Leuthold and his family in 1988, specializes in converting recycled wastepaper into insulation and fibers for various applications. The second plant, adjacent to the original operation, features state-of-the-art equipment manufactured in the US, including components from Crawford County.
In other news, Arizona State University has recognized the increasing popularity of artificial intelligence (AI) and is now offering a degree program in this field. ASU is staying up to date with the trend by introducing a first-of-its-kind program in AI that will prepare students for careers in this rapidly growing industry.
