Accessible Parenting Workshops: Empowering Parents with Knowledge and Support through Iowa State University

A study by Zero to Three in 2016 found that parents are seeking information and support to improve their parenting skills. While the majority of parents are motivated to learn more strategies, almost half feel they lack the necessary support during stressful times. In response, the Science of Parenting team from Iowa State University is offering online workshops to help parents learn effective strategies.

The Science of Parenting team at Iowa State University is providing parents with much-needed support by offering online workshops to help them improve their parenting skills. These workshops, scheduled for May, cover a range of topics including Understanding Research and Reality, Understanding Temperament, Children’s Ages and Parenting Stages, and Positive Discipline. These workshops aim to provide research-based information that can be applied to each family’s unique circumstances.

The first workshop, Understanding Research and Reality, will connect research findings to practical parenting strategies. This workshop is also approved for foster parent credit hours. The second workshop, Understanding Temperament, will explore how to navigate the unique traits of children. The third workshop, Children’s Ages and Parenting Stages, will help parents gain a better understanding of child development. Finally, the Positive Discipline workshop will address how parents can effectively manage their child’s behavior using positive discipline techniques.

Parents who attend these workshops can do so for free but are encouraged to register in advance on the Science of Parenting website to receive the class link and materials for each workshop. By providing accessible resources and support, the Science of Parenting team hopes to empower parents with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate the challenges of parenthood.
