Abraham Oseguera Cervantes Arrested: Another Blow Against Jalisco New Generation Cartel

The National Guard of Mexico made a significant blow to the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) with the arrest of Abraham Oseguera Cervantes, also known as ‘Don Rodo’, who is the brother of the cartel’s leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes. The arrest took place in Autlán de Navarro, located in the state of Jalisco, and was confirmed by the National Detention Registry.

The Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) stated that Abraham Oseguera Cervantes was considered one of the main coordinators of the cartel’s logistical and financial operations, primarily involved in money laundering and overseeing drug trafficking and sales. Following his arrest, he was transferred to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO) in Mexico City.

Abraham Oseguera Cervantes had previously been arrested in Mexico with his brother ‘El Mencho’ for selling heroin to undercover police officers in San Francisco. After serving his sentence, ‘Don Rodo’ returned to Mexico and continued to be involved in the operations of the CJNG. The National Arrest Registry describes Abraham Oseguera Cervantes as a man with white skin, dark hair, and 1.70 meters tall.

The CJNG has evolved from a small group of deserters from the Millennium Cartel into one of the most prolific and violent drug trafficking organizations globally. The United States has offered a reward of 10 million dollars for information leading to the capture of ‘El Mencho’, who is considered one of Mexico’s most wanted criminals. The cartel is known for its extreme violence and control over vast territories, expanding its operations across Mexico and internationally.

Security analyst David Saucedo believes that Abraham Oseguera Cervantes may have been arrested with an intention to extradite him to the United States given his past criminal activities involving drug trafficking and money laundering. However, he had not been linked directly to any recent acts of violence or terrorism attributed to other members of his family or their associates.

In conclusion, this arrest marks another step forward for Mexican law enforcement efforts against organized crime and could potentially lead to dismantling some parts of this dangerous criminal network’s structure.
