AAAS Recognizes UA and ASU Professors for Outstanding Scientific Contributions

Arizona Professors Honored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) recently unveiled its list of 2023 fellows, recognizing 502 scientists, engineers, and innovators for their outstanding contributions to scientific and social fields. Among these distinguished individuals were University of Arizona professors Daniel Apai and Dante Lauretta for their work in astronomy, planetary sciences, and astrobiology, as well as ASU professor Kaye Reed for her research in human evolution.

Kaye Reed, who received this honor, expressed her gratitude and felt overwhelmed by the recognition. She explained that her research focuses on reconstructing paleoenvironments for hominin ancestors, contributing valuable insights into the study of the relationship between organisms and their environments.

Andrew Black from the science association noted that the AAAS fellows program has a rich history dating back to 1874 when the first class of fellows was named. He emphasized that this recognition is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the scientific community, representing a culmination of an individual’s career achievements and contributions.
