A Weekend of Triumph for Dundee Wrestlers and Softball Players: NCAA Championships, College Games and High School Action

This weekend saw great success for wrestlers from Dundee at the NCAA Wrestling Championships. Casey Swiderski of Iowa State earned All-American status at 149 pounds, finishing seventh, while Braeden Davis of Penn State contributed to their national championship win. Penn State dominated the tournament with a total of 155.5 points, more than double that of the runner-up, Michigan. Iowa State placed fifth with 64.5 points.

Swiderski started off strong by winning his first two matches with scores of 2-1 and 8-5. He then lost in the quarterfinals to Ridge Lovett of Nebraska before bouncing back to win his next match. In the end, he finished his weekend with a decisive victory in the seventh-place match. On the other hand, Davis just missed out on becoming an All-American, bowing out in the blood round at 125 pounds after winning his first two matches.

In college softball action over the weekend, Monroe graduate Ellie Sieler and her Michigan teammates swept a three-game series against Whiteford graduate Ally VanBrandt and Indiana. Sieler had a productive series, going 4-for-10 with four RBIs and three runs scored, including a home run and a double in the first game. VanBrandt was among the top hitters for Indiana, going 3-for-10 with a run scored and an RBI.

In high school soccer action over the weekend, Flat Rock secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wyandotte Roosevelt with Isabella Thomas scoring the lone goal off an assist from Megan Woelkers. Keola Botts recorded the shutout for Flat Rock as they held their opponents scoreless throughout
