A Tribute to Loss: A New Off-Broadway Production of ‘Someone Spectacular’

A Spectacular Someone to Debut Off-Broadway This Summer

In July, a new Off-Broadway production of Domenica Feraud’s play “Someone Spectacular” will have its world premiere at the Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center. Although it is not a Signature production, the play will officially open on July 31. Previews for the play will begin on July 17.

The story of “Someone Spectacular” follows six strangers who come together for weekly group therapy sessions after experiencing loss. When their grief counselor goes missing, the group’s session takes an unexpected turn and leads to a deep exploration of the theme of loss.

Playwright Domenica Feraud shared that the inspiration for the play came from her own personal experience with loss – the sudden passing of her mother, Nathalie Feraud-Salame, two years ago. Writing “Someone Spectacular” was a way for her to cope and survive after her mother’s death. Feraud described the play as a love letter to her mom and to anyone who has experienced love and loss.

The upcoming production features scenic design by two-time Tony nominee dots, costume design by Siena Zoƫ Allen, lighting design by Drama Desk nominee Oona Curley, and sound design by Tony nominee Mikaal Sulaiman. The casting will be handled by Conrad Woolfe and Leigh Ann Smith, while general management will be taken care of by Cheryl Dennis Productions. The production is a collaboration between B3-A12/Domenica Feraud, Paige Evans, and Margaret Leigh.
