Dave McCarty, a former Boston Red Sox player and 2004 World Series winner, has passed away at the age of 54 in Oakland, California after suffering a cardiac event. McCarty spent three seasons with the Red Sox and was part of the historic 2004 World Series championship team. The Red Sox organization expressed their condolences to his wife, Monica, and their children, Reid and Maxine.

McCarty played both first base and outfield during his 11-year career in Major League Baseball. He spent the final three seasons with the Red Sox before retiring after playing a total of 630 games with seven different teams. After his playing career, McCarty worked as a TV analyst for the Red Sox on New England Sports Network. He had recently been at Fenway Park for a tribute to the 2004 World Series team.

Former teammate Lenny DiNardo shared his sadness over the news of McCarty’s passing on social media, calling him a great guy who will be missed by many.
