A New Dawn for India’s Kashmir Valley: The Successful Trial Run on the World’s Highest Railway Bridge Marks a Major Milestone in Transportation Infrastructure Development

In Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Railways successfully completed a trial run on the world’s highest railway bridge. This newly-built Chenab railway bridge is located between Sangaldan in Ramban district and Reasi. The officials have stated that rail services on this line will commence soon.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video of the trial run on social media, highlighting the successful test run of a MEMU train on the Sangaldan – Reasi section of the USBRL project. The bridge itself is an impressive feat of engineering, standing 359 meters above the Chenab River, which is approximately 35 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

The Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) Project aims to connect the Kashmir valley to the Indian Railway network. This significant initiative includes the Banihal-Sangaldan section and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 20, 2024. Previous phases of the project, such as the Qazigund-Baramulla stretch inaugurated in 2009 and others, have been completed, making progress towards this ultimate goal. The completion of the Chenab bridge is a crucial step in achieving accessibility to the Kashmir valley through this railway network.

The USBRL project has been hailed as a significant achievement by officials and experts alike due to its ambitious scope and challenging terrain. The completion of this incredible structure marks a major milestone in India’s ongoing efforts to improve transportation infrastructure across its vast landscape.

In conclusion, India’s successful trial run on world’s highest railway bridge is an impressive feat that will bring more accessibility to one of India’s most remote regions through railways transportation network.
