A New Chapter for Austria’s Domestic Aviation: Austro Control Looks for New Management as Hackl Steps Down

Why Haselsteiner and Grossnigg recruit a former minister

Austro Control’s Managing Director, Hackl, is stepping down at the end of April. She has also recently served on the supervisory board of Ankerbrot Holding and its subsidiary Anker Snack & Coffee GmbH, which is Austria’s oldest large bakery with 100 branches under Grossnigg’s Austro Holding. Additionally, she has been appointed to the holding’s supervisory board at Strabag, Europe’s largest construction company.

In February, Kerstin Gelbmann took over as chairman of the supervisory board at Strabag, replacing Alfred Gusenbauer. Gelbmann is also Grossnigg’s right-hand person and serves as the head of the supervisory board at Ankerbrot, as well as a board member of Austro Holding and the Haselsteiner Family Private Foundation. Meanwhile, Karin Exner-Wöhrer, a former supervisory board member at Salzburger Aluminum, has parted ways with Haselsteiner and Grossnigg due to issues surrounding the insolvent Signa company.

Prior to her role at Austro Control, Hackl served on the board of ÖBB passenger transport and worked as an assistant to former CEO and SPÖ leader Christian Kern. Following the Ibiza scandal, she briefly served as interim Transport Minister under Sebastian Short. As no new boss for Austro-Control has yet been advertised by the ministry, anticipation is building for the upcoming announcement regarding management of the Air Group responsible for domestic aviation industry in Austria.

The Ministry of Transport has announced that a public tender for the position will be issued shortly following an evaluation process. Applicants have until April 29th to apply for this high-level position that involves managing all aspects of domestic aviation in Austria.

The ministry emphasizes that it will follow proper protocol when filling such important positions in order to ensure fairness and transparency throughout its selection process.
