A Lunar Encounter Turns Bizarre: NASA’s Orbiter Captures Stretched Image of South Korea’s Danuri Spacecraft

Unknown Object Spotted by NASA Spacecraft in Mysterious Orbit around the Moon

Recently, NASA’s lunar orbiter captured images of an object resembling a surfboard passing by the moon. However, it was not a UFO or an alien structure, but rather South Korea’s Danuri spacecraft moving past while the two spacecraft were orbiting the moon. The close encounter occurred between March 5 and 6 as the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) and Danuri traversed the moon in parallel orbits, allowing the LRO team at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center to take photos of the event.

The fast movement of Danuri posed a challenge to LRO’s camera, but it was able to capture images of the first Korean spacecraft to achieve lunar orbit in December 2022. Due to the significant speed difference between the two spacecraft, Danuri appeared stretched in the photos, resembling a flat surfboard rather than its actual box-shaped design with solar panels attached to each side.

Paul Byrne, an associate professor of planetary science at Washington University in St. Louis, shared the images on social media platforms and clarified that Danuri’s appearance was distorted due to its velocity. The resemblance of Danuri to Marvel Universe character Silver Surfer was noted by some observers, adding a touch of familiarity to the unusual encounter between two lunar orbiters.
