The T.K. Martin Center for Technology and Disability at Mississippi State University is hosting a hands-on training session to explore the latest technology in sensors for power wheelchairs. Titled “A Day with LUCI,” the event will take place on April 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is open to professionals in the field of assistive technology, including occupational and physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, teachers, and counselors.
The session will introduce participants to LUCI, an innovative power wheelchair system that uses smart sensors to prevent injury and damage during wheelchair use. During the hands-on training session, participants will learn about the programming options and features of the LUCI system while also having the chance to practice using it on different types of wheelchairs. The smart sensors in the system alert users when they are too close to an obstacle and stop the chair’s movement, enhancing safety and accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
