8-hour Brain Surgery Saves Young Girl’s Life: Case Study

The little girl was diagnosed with a meningioma after her persistent headache

A young girl in Hanoi was experiencing severe headaches for weeks before she was finally taken to the hospital. After an examination, doctors discovered that she had a large meningioma, a type of tumor, located in a dangerous area that was invading the surrounding tissue. Urgent surgery was necessary to remove the tumor and protect her neurological function and life.

The medical team from the Department of Neurosurgery at Hospital E planned a treatment approach that involved embolization followed by tumor surgery to minimize the risk of blood loss during the procedure. Despite the complexities of the case, the team was determined to proceed with the surgery, carefully identifying and removing the tumor while avoiding damage to healthy brain tissue and reducing complications.

During the 8-hour surgery, doctors utilized microsurgical glasses, nerve localization, and nerve fiber bundles to identify and remove the tumor. The entire tumor and infiltrated tissue were successfully removed without causing any significant harm to healthy brain tissue or nerves.
