6th Annual Del Ray vs. Old Town Softball Battle: Food, Drinks and a Battle for Supremacy!

Battle between businesses in Old Town and Del Ray set for Thursday in softball game

On May 23rd, at Simpson Field, the 6th Annual Del Ray vs. Old Town Softball Battle will take place. The defending champions from Del Ray will face off against Old Town in this highly anticipated event. Mayor Justin Wilson will kick off the game by throwing the first pitch at Eugene Simpson Park at 6 p.m.

The game will consist of five innings and feature food trucks, ice cream, and draft beer from Port City Brewing Company. Longtime umpire Dana Lawhorne, Alexandria’s retired sheriff, will not be officiating this year’s game but will instead provide commentary from the broadcast booth. In the past, Lawhorne ejected Bill Blackburn from the game for challenging one of his calls.

Despite the weather forecast predicting a 50% chance of rain, Old Town team captain Trae Lamond is confident in his team’s ability to win. He jokingly stated that they plan to outscore Del Ray and make them shake in their yoga pants. On the other hand, Del Ray team captain Bill Blackburn is determined to retain the John Porter Cup for the third consecutive year. He believes his players are well-prepared and ready for the challenge.

Both sides are excited to compete and showcase their skills on the field, despite playful banter between them. The game promises to be an exciting event that is sure to attract a large crowd of spectators who can enjoy delicious food and drinks while watching two great teams battle it out on the field!
