49ers Land Tight End Thomas to Bolster Depth Amid Setbacks in Free Agency

Free agent tight end Logan Thomas close to completing agreement with 49ers

The 49ers were in search of a replacement for backup tight end Charlie Woerner, who left for the Falcons in free agency. Their efforts led them to 2023 third-round pick Cameron Latu, who suffered a season-ending knee injury. This setback left the team in need of depth at the position.

After missing out on Lions tight end Brock Wright, who was offered a three-year, $12 million deal but ultimately matched by Atlanta, the 49ers turned their attention to veteran tight end Logan Thomas. Thomas began his NFL career as a quarterback with the Cardinals before transitioning to tight end and has since played for the Bills, Lions, and Commanders. In 2023, he recorded 55 receptions for 496 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games with Washington.

Now, the 49ers are working to finalize a deal with Thomas to bolster their tight end depth for the upcoming season. Thomas brings experience and versatility to the position, making him a valuable addition to the team’s roster. With Latu recovering from injury, Thomas could provide much-needed depth and production at the tight end position for the 49ers.
