49ers and Brandon Aiyuk to Meet for Contract Extension Talks: What to Expect Amid New Standards for Wide Receivers

Update: San Francisco 49ers to hold meeting with Brandon Aiyuk today

The 49ers and disgruntled receiver Brandon Aiyuk are set to meet today to discuss his future with the team. According to ESPN’s Ryan Clark, the details of their talks are not yet clear.

Aiyuk has been vocal about his desire for a contract extension, which led him to skip the entire offseason program, including the mandatory minicamp. He currently has a fifth-year option contract worth $14.1 million for the 2024 season, but reportedly wants $30 million or more per year. This has resulted in a contract standoff between Aiyuk and the 49ers.

The recent contract extensions signed by other wide receivers, such as Justin Jefferson, A.J. Brown, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Jaylen Waddle, have helped set new standards for the position. Jefferson’s deal, averaging $35 million per year, made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. Aiyuk’s performance last season, with 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, further bolsters his case for a lucrative extension.
