2024 NFL Draft: Texas Defensive Prospect T’Vondre Sweat Arrested for DUI, Impacting His Draft Position

Former Texas star T’Vondre Sweat arrested on DWI charge in 2024 NFL Draft, reportedly has visits with two teams

In less than three weeks before the start of the 2024 NFL Draft, one of the top defensive prospects of this year’s rookie class was arrested, according to KXAN. Texas product T’Vondre Sweat, 22, was detained at Travis County Jail in Austin, Texas, earlier Sunday after being arrested by Austin Police on a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated. Standing at 6-4 and weighing 365 pounds, he is not only an All-American but also won the Outland Trophy as the nation’s top interior offensive or defensive lineman in 2023.

With accolades such as being named an All-American and winning the Outland Trophy as the nation’s top interior offensive or defensive lineman in 2023, Sweat is currently ranked as the No. 82 overall prospect in the 2024 class by CBS Sports. He has visits scheduled with teams such as Tennessee Titans on Monday and Seattle Seahawks later in the week. However, this incident may impact his draft stock as teams consider the implications of a Class B misdemeanor charge that carries a penalty of up to 180 days in jail, a fine of up to $2,000 or both.

Despite facing a misdemeanor charge for driving while intoxicated earlier Sunday morning after an SUV crash on Interstate-35 with another sedan vehicle, Sweat remains in contention for being drafted within the first or second round during April 25th’s NFL Draft. As Josh Sweat’s younger brother who plays pass rusher for Philadelphia Eagles he is not expected to face any potential NFL discipline for now since he hasn’t joined league yet but it could change his draft position if teams have concerns about his behavior off field.
