Houstonians’ Top Concerns Revealed in Rice University’s 2024 Kinder Institute Study: Crime, Housing, and Education

The 2024 Kinder Houston Area Survey, released by Rice University, sheds light on how Houstonians view the region’s past, present, and future. With over 5,300 participants in the survey’s 43rd year, changes in southeast Texas are documented.

According to the survey, crime and safety are the top concerns for Houstonians. Despite a decrease in crime since 2020, worries about safety have increased. Housing affordability is also a significant issue for many residents in the city. One in five respondents cited it as their top concern. In recent years, Houston has become a majority-renter city, with 60% of residents renting their homes. The survey also highlighted the need for more funding for public education, with 70% of respondents agreeing that public schools require additional resources.

The results of the survey are available to the public on the Kinder Institute’s website. For updates on this story, follow Tom Abrahams on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Copyright © 2024 KTRK-TV. All Rights Reserved.
