10 Common Mistakes That Can Make Your Skin Prone to Acne and Sensitivity

Improper cleaning and skin care, overusing cosmetics, and anti-aging too early can make the skin vulnerable to acne and sensitivity. Dr. Le Vi Anh from the Department of Dermatology – Skin Aesthetics at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital explains that acne is a disease of the sebaceous gland hair follicles that manifests in various forms of lesions such as comedones, papules, inflammation, pustules, lumps, acne cysts, and keloid scars. Acne is common in both men and women during puberty until the age of 30 or 40, and if not treated promptly, it can leave permanent scars.

There are several causes of acne including endocrine, digestive, and bacterial factors. Bacteria such as staphylococcus, streptococcus, and Cutibacterium acnes play a role in causing acne by irritating and inflaming hair follicles. Acne can also be triggered by food allergies or vitamin B2 deficiency. The three main mechanisms that cause acne include increased sebum secretion, keratinization of the sebaceous gland hair follicle neck, and the role of bacteria in the hair follicles.

Sensitive skin occurs when the skin’s natural barrier loses its ability to protect leading to excessive water loss and easy penetration of external agents such as sun exposure or pollution. Factors like sun exposure or pollution can worsen sensitive skin along with certain ingredients in cosmetics or cleaning agents. Acne is one of the main factors that can affect skin beauty and health followed by sensitive skin. Understanding these issues early on can help improve overall appearance and health of the skin.
